Traditional Chinese Music v.s. Modern Chinese Music

By Li Yan, Class 4, Grade 1

I like music, especially Chinese music, because Chinese music is classical. It contains traditional music and modern music. Let’s compare them.

Traditional music is always played by wooden instruments, such as erhu, pipa and so on. It sounds soft. It was played in 17-19th centuries. Most of the writers were women, because there were a lot of wars in the world and the men were away from home to protect the country. There were strong emotions in women’s heart. They also had much time to create the music, so most of the music was about love and missing for their husbands.

On the other hand, we use modern instruments to show modern music, like pianos and guitar. It has spread all over the country even all over the world by radio and TV. It was played in 19th to 20th centuries. At that time, in China, there was a big revolution, so the songs were about the society and the revolution. The rhythm of them is faster and stronger. In the music, there was also an emotion to wish the revolution success.

I not only like traditional music, but also like modern music, although they have many differences between each other.
